Printer Installation

Windows XP instructions.
Things to do before you start setting up your printer:

  • Make sure the printer is switched on and connected to the network or to your computer by USB if you dont have it on network.
  • Find the IP of the printer. On the printer, go through the configuration, it might display the IP on the little screen or give you a print out of the whole configuration, you can find the IP Address information from there.

You are now all set to install the printer.

  • Open "Control Panel".
  • Click on "Switch to Classic View" in the left column (if it already says "Switch to Category View", you are fine).
  • Select "Printers and Faxes"
  • Click "Add a printer" in the left column, "Add Printer Wizard" will pop up.
  • Click "Next".
  • Select "Local printer attached to this computer" and uncheck "Automatically detect and install my Plug and Play printer".
  • Click "Next".
  • Select "Create a new port:" with "Type of port" "Standard TCP/IP Port".
  • Click "Next", "Add Standard TCP/IP Printer Port wizard" pops up.
  • Click "Next" there.
  • Enter the ip address for your network printer in "Printer Name or IP Address:"
  • Click "Next".
  • Leave "Device Port" as it is.
  • Click "Next".
  • Click "Finish".
  • Select your printer model from the list (it is stated on the front panel of the printer), if there are several printers with the very same name except of PCL, PCL6 PS, PostScript or similar at the end, select the one with PCL5 or just PCL.
    • If your printer is not on the list, click on "Have a disk" and provide a path to the driver (download it from the manufacturer web site and unpack it).
  • Click "Next".
  • If it is your default printer, select "Yes".
  • Click "Next".
  • Leave "Do not share this printer" selected.
  • Click "Next".
  • Print a test page.
  • If the page prints fine, your are all set. Click "Finish". Otherwise drop us an e-mail.

It is always better to install the driver that specifically comes for the printer rather than a generic one because it is more able to handle all the functionality of the printer, specially if the printer is a duplex.
